Altaura Farm

To avoid any inconveniences, we request that all visits are booked prior to arrival via E-mail: dfmaria@libero.it or telephone (refer to contact information). Different schedules can be agreed upon.

(In the event of bad weather, the outdoor activities can be substituted for others that can be performed in our ample indoor areas.)

This year, knowing the economical difficulties our country is undergoing, we have reduced our tariffs to give more people the possibility of enjoying the authentic experiences of our farm. It is our wish to spread the genuine beauty of Nature.

PROGRAMME

Starts 10.00: Welcome and introduction to the farm.

10.30-13.00: Farm Experience - We explore, in-depth, one aspect of the farm life.

13.00 - 14.00: Packed Lunch prepared at Farm with our own organic produce.

14.00 - 1630: Farm Experience - We explore, in-depth, one aspect of the farm life.

16.30 -17.00: Free time and Farewells.

OTHER ACTIVITIES AVAILABLE

It is possible to ‘rent’:

- A fruit tree and pick your own fruit!

- A small portion of the vegetable garden and pick your own fresh vegetables!

- A BBQ to grill your own meats ‘al fresco’(outdoors)

It is possible to select from in-between all the plants that grow spontaneously on the lands of the farm. Small fruits and ornamental plants may be chosen for re-planting in your own garden or orchard at home.

YEARLY CALENDAR

JANUARY - Epiphany and Carnival

Sunday 6th: The Epiphany arrives, we prepare a pile for a bonfire with brushwood. We will play Bingo in the old stables, and we will make a sorghum whisk.

Sunday 13th:Saint Anthony Abate's Feast is coming up, he is the protector of domestic animals - specially the pig. The children will case and tie a salami. We will make bird feeders with pumpkin and small netts filled with lard and seeds. We will play Bingo.

Sunday 20th:We will play with the "fundamental mud", we will make "terracotta" and build dusters with cane and the hears of the cobs. Later we will bake bread.

Sunday 27th:We will pick leaves, feathers and berries to create our own Carnival Mask. Games, tales, nursery rhymes and animals that make fun of man. "Il Gioco dell'Oca" (Italian game) played with the Gigantic boxes that can be found all over the farm.

FEBRUARY - Venetian Carnival

Sunday 3rd: Carnival: We will pick leaves, feathers and berries to create our own Carnival Mask. "Il Gioco dell'Oca" (Italian game) played with the Gigantic boxes that can be found all over the farm.

Sunday 10th:With all the bits that we find in our stroll around the farm, we will design animals and little objects. We will make a "wind pipe" with a branch of elderflower and oak galls. We will play games from past eras.

Tuesday 12th: (known as Shrove Tuesday, Fat Tuesday, Pancake Day or Mardi Grass) Carnival: We will pick leaves, feathers and berries to create our own Carnival Mask. Games, tales, nursery rhymes and animals that make fun of man. "Il Gioco dell'Oca" (Italian game) played with the Gigantic boxes that can be found all over the farm.

Sunday 17th: We will help the little birds to build their nests. We will prune the fruit trees. Treasure Hunting for the children.

Sunday 24th: The 5 Senses Plus One in the Winter Countryside. The wood-fuelled biomass boiler. Architecture of the trees. We will build bird feeders with pumpkin and small nets filled with lard and seeds.

MARCH - "The rain doesn't fall from the sky, it comes from the soil" (M. Fukuoka)

Seeding with the Clay Seeds Balls method that preserves the precious cherry, apricot, apple and wheat seeds...

Sundays 3rd:We will help the orchard and the forest to grow: we will learn how to prune. Treasure Hunts for the children. We will go for a walk to discover the first sprouts and leaves, shall we find a flower or two? Contest with prizes: Art and Nature.

Sunday 10th: Let's design rural buildings like in the '700s:trees, hives and nests, there will be a prize for the most beautiful design. Treasure Hunts for the children. The art of grafting.

Sunday 17th:Saint Joseph's Day. We will have fun being carpenters for a day building bird houses and caning a chair with a "caress". Treasure Hunts for the children.

Sunday 24th:"Even the children can contribute to creating a little paradise playing with clay balls, inside which, are seeds of vegetables, fruit trees, foresting species, cereals and green manures that enrich the soil and fertilizes it..." (Panos Manikis, student of M. Fukuoka) Whoever eats peaches, cherries, apricots, any type of fruit, can leave them to dry and give them back to the soil.

Sunday 31st: Easter. The eggs are the symbol of spring and of Easter Time. Placing one close to your ear and you can hear the chick "knocking on the door" to enter life. We will dye eggs with natural colours. We will form an Egg Collection. It is time to make the vegetable garden. To have pumpkins as big as a barrel, you need to plant them in April .We will play games of past eras. We will make bees wax candles. Contest: Art and Nature.
